Polished, Zapon-varnished, spun aluminum. First edition in very good vintage condition.
The ‘Splügen Bräu’ from polished aluminum is designed by the Castiglioni brothers in 1961 and put into production by Flos in 1964.
The Italian architects Pier Giacomo (1913-1968) and Achille (1918-2002) Castiglioni, have undoubtedly made the greatest contribution to the iconic status of lighting company FLOS. Almost all their designs like the ‘Taccia’ table lamp, the ‘Arco’ Floor Light, the ‘Parentesi’ or the ‘Snoopy’ table light became Italian classics and many of them are on display at museums around the world, including the MoMA in New York, the V&A in London or the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague.
The design of this ‘Splügen Braü’, reminiscent of a beehive, is by its cleverly thought out design, streamlined look and practical use, a typical illustration for the genius of the Castiglioni brothers at developing new possibilities for design with a minimum of means.
