This iconic lamp, widely considered as one of the finest French lighting designs of the second half of the 20th century, was created and produced by Jean Rispal. The Praying Mantis lamp is part of a unique production of biomorphic light fixtures, designed during the early 50s. For the organic vocabulary of his functional sculptures, Rispal was said to have found inspiration in the poetic and stylized formal language in the abstract work of the French-German artist Hans Arp. It's no certainty that this lamp got its evocative name from Rispal himself, but it definitely adds to its appeal.

The gloss of the varnished wood and the delicate braided lamp shades of pleated fiberglass enhance the unique atmosphere created by the elegant ‘praying mantis’, a conversation piece of unsurpassed class.
